Mama, I choose to celebrate your life.

Hi and welcome back to Natalie Inspires You.

Wishing all mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day. Choose to celebrate yourselves today. Choose to celebrate the greatest gift bestowed upon you; the gift of motherhood.

Happy to share with you just ‘a drop in the ocean’ about my mum, my woman of worth ( WOW) for May. I’m certain these simple truths about her life will add much value to yours.

Mama, I choose to celebrate your life.

“Thank- You” were mama’s final words to her night nurse before she peacefully passed away in her sleep. Thereby leaving us a  legacy of 𝕲𝖗𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖙𝖚𝖉𝖊. So, today, I choose to celebrate her life; the excellent, glorious, abundant, and pious life she lived.

To many, Flavia Fernandes, Nee Sequeira, and Aunty Flavia was undoubtedly one of a kind! An excellent English & Religion teacher of her time. All who met her had kind words to say about her, as my friends they simply loved her; my home was a place where they all felt welcomed.

As a child, she nurtured my every need to be creative and welcomed my timid personality to help me grow out of it. As a teenager, she gave me the freedom to make decisions and learn that they come with consequences. Finally, as a young adult, she gave me the wings to fly.

I often wondered how she lived a selfless life, having given so much to her family. It is only now that I have come to realize that she was an architect building cathedrals that are appreciated today and ones that will be for generations to come.

Service to the poor was her most significant advice to her children. After having served the Society of St Vincent de Paul for years on end, it was no surprise then that she passed away on the 200th death anniversary of the founder - Frédéric Ozanam.

Her strength, which she undoubtedly drew from The Lord, is what she used to shoulder the responsibility of bringing up a family single-handedly for over 20 years after the passing away of my dad. The astounding thing is that I don’t have a single memory of her grumbling or expressing lack. Instead, abundance surrounded us and that I believe came from the unshakable faith and trust she had in Jesus and his Blessed Mother Mary.

A tall, slender and regal lady was she till the very end, knowing and believing that she had to give out of a complete or overflowing cup; she did enjoy her life, traveled the world, enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, and built a beautiful community.

Respecting people and their feelings, staying humble at all times, choosing to remain silent, and going through the sacrifices to be a good mother is what she taught me, amongst many other great things!

How then can I choose not to celebrate her life? The legacy she left serves as a deep-rooted foundation for my journey of motherhood.

You are a glorious crown in the hands of The Lord, dear Mama. There will always be much to celebrate about you and no one to replace you.

RIP dear mama; you are my shining star in a dark, gloomy sky, my fluttering white butterfly in the park, my beautiful snowflake upon my winter jacket, and my rainbow in a cloudy sky.

You make me want to give more to the world around me. You complete me.
